Yes, grants are real! We get it though. Sometimes it can seem like grants are this mythical thing that you hear about, but don’t really believe in. But all around the country, real grants benefit real departments and agencies just like yours every single day. Here are some recent public safety grant awards.
Bridgewater Police Department Receives $40,000 State Grant to Improve Road Safety
The Bridgewater Police Department received funding through the Municipal Road Grant Safety Program. The funding will allow departments to afford road safety initiatives such as traffic safety enforcement, bicyclist and pedestrian safety enforcement, non-enforcement activities such as training or community events and the purchase of traffic safety equipment or other community safety items such as bike helmets.
Arkansas invests $100 million total to boost school security statewide in light of threats
After the deadly school shooting at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas in 2022, Arkansas decided to invest its first $50 million in grants into schools to upgrade their security.
Those funds are now running out, though, and Tuesday, ADE requested another $50 million to meet its goal of getting every school in Arkansas to what has been defined as a ‘Tier One’ level of security, defined by the commission’s recommendations.
NIPSCO Seeks Grant Applications for Public Safety Education and Responder Training
For the seventh consecutive year, Northern Indiana Public Service Company LLC (NIPSCO) is accepting applications for its Public Safety Education and Training Action Grant to support local nonprofit organizations and first responders to provide public safety education and training across northern Indiana. Grants are available in amounts ranging from $500 to $5,000. Applications are being accepted now through Nov. 8, with grant awards announced during the week of Nov. 25.
4 MN tribes gain federal funds to help with crime, opioid abuse
Each grant ranged from $450,000 to $900,000, and will be used for wellness courts in White Earth and Mille Lacs, among other programs like medication-assisted therapy in the Red Lake Detention Center.
Springfield receives $60k grant for road safety campaigns
In Springfield, the funds will pay for six traffic enforcement campaigns: “Winter Impaired Driving,” “Distracted Driving,” “Click It Or Ticket,” “June Speed Enforcement,” “July Speed Enforcement,” and “Summer Impaired Driving.” The programs are run each year with help from the state grant.
St. Charles opens regional police training center
The city of St. Charles has opened a new police training center to serve around 35 law enforcement agencies throughout the region. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for the St. Charles Police Department Public Safety Training Center on Monday evening, where officials said the $1.2 million facility was funded through donations and grants, not local tax dollars.
Westford awarded traffic safety, risk management grants
The first was a grant from the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security for the FY25 Municipal Road Safety Program. This grant is $18,656 of approximately $12.42 million in traffic safety grants distributed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to Massachusetts communities.
Emergency response departments receive $731K in Compeer grants
Emergency response departments serving rural communities in Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin were awarded $731,000 for equipment needs and program enhancements through Compeer Financial’s Fund for Rural America. A total of 173 grants were extended by the Farm Credit cooperative’s giving program, including 13 collaboration grants for equipment shared across multiple departments.
