Multiple Federal Grants Awarded to Central Illinois Communities to Enhance Public Safety

The Department awarded a $1,000,000 Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) Comprehensive Opioid, Stimulant, and Substance Use Site-Based Program grant to Marshall, Putnam, and Stark counties to support a multi-county program: Reaching Rural: Rural Roads to Recovery Program. The program is designed to develop a collaborative, research based, and multi-care level community-based program for individuals affected by substance-use disorder.

TPD Receives $2.5M in Grant Funding from the Department of Justice to Further Investigate Sexual Assault Kits

The grant will allow the Tulsa Police Department to continue working on the prosecution of unsolved sexual assault cases. This is critical to enhancing the response to sexual assaults and ensuring justice for victims. This funding will not only help link victims with advocates and services but also help implement best practices to prosecute offenders and increase public safety.

Three Area Law Enforcement Offices Receive Recruitment Grants

The Department of Public Safety grants total $4.5 million and are being spread out among 46 agencies statewide. Up to $50,000 is available per candidate. They already have two- or four-year college degrees and have been working in an unrelated field. The money allows them to transition to a law enforcement career. The Intensive Comprehensive Grant program will benefit Sartell and Waite Park Police.

The holidays arrived early for the Los Altos Police Department in the form of two grants totaling nearly $69,000.

Justice Department Awards $1.5 Million to Louisiana State Police for Sexual Assault Kit Initiative

U.S. Attorney Ronald C. Gathe, Jr. announced that the Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance has awarded $1,500,000 to Louisiana State Police for the National Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) to research, review, and collect lawfully-owed DNA from arrestees and convicted offenders for enrollment in the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) in hopes that they will return hits to generate new investigative information in unsolved cases.
