Can I get a grant for your grant training?

No, but you can get it for FREE

Whether we’re chatting with someone at an event or a person replies to one of our Facebook posts, we know it’s only a matter of time. Sooner or later when the price of our 2-day training comes up, we get asked this:

“Can I get a grant for your grant training?”

In over 20 years of leading grant training for America’s public safety pros, it’s one of those things we’ve come to expect.

Sometimes it’s a hardy-har-har line, and we all have a good laugh. Other times, we know good and well it’s coming from a place of hardship. We get it. Budgets are tighter than new boots.

Here’s what we do instead

So no… as far as we know, there is no grant that covers that cost of our grant training.

Our training costs $499 for 2 full days, plus travel costs for the in-person classes that we host all over the USA.

When that’s a struggle for students to figure out, we have 2 main options that have helped many of America’s public safety pros attend our grant training:

  1. Ask your community for donations to cover the costs of training
  2. Attend our live, online training
  3. Host our training at your agency

Option 1: Ask your community for donations to cover the costs of training

We’ve worked with students at in-person training sessions whose agencies had limited budgets. When the agency couldn’t find training funds in the budget, those agencies turned to their community.

In order to get funds for grant training, another option is to ask the local community for donations. That could come in the form of a donation campaign or fundraising event. Local businesses or corporate neighbors such as Wal-Mart also may be open to providing funds.

Option 2: Attend our live, online training

A few years back, we added live, online, 2-day training sessions to our offerings.

When out-of-town dates conflicted with a student’s schedule or duties, these online trainings have been a useful alternative.

They come with another benefit.

Since the training is all online, over Zoom, there are no travel costs involved. No airfare, gas, car rental, hotel, meals, you name it. Eliminating the travel costs and having only the tuition has put our training in reach for hundreds of students nationwide.

Option 3: Host our training at your agency

For other students, that $499 remains too steep a hill to climb.

So here’s what we do instead.

While there isn’t a grant for our grant training, there is a way to get our training for free.

When we started offering our training back in 2004, we built in a little goodie for the agencies that hosted us:

Host agencies get free seats.

That’s right.

When agencies host our grant-writing training, we slip them some free seats that they can use as they wish. For many agencies around the country, this has made all the difference in being able to attend, and get the benefit of, the training they are hosting.

If hosting our training could be a good fit for your agency, here’s what to do:

Want to discuss how to host our training?

It’s like a grant for our grant training: Host our class at your agency for free seats

Many students take our online training instead of traveling, and that cost reduction alone makes attending possible.

When budgets are really tight, but you know good and well your agency would benefit from having a skilled grant writer on the team, that’s a good time to consider hosting our training.

We want you to attend our grant-writing training

When we get asked about “grants for our grant training,” we take it in stride. We get it, too. Sometimes someone’s just joking around. Often though, they’re coming from some really tough financial straits. Their area and agency simply may have a very limited budget.

Is there a grant for our grant training? Nope.

But when you take our online training, or host us to give training in your area, that can get the training you need to find the grants your agency needs.
