Are we starting to see a thaw in federal grant freezes?
We’re talking with people throughout the grants world. There’s little definitive yet, but it’s possible that more federal programs, such as FEMA’s SAFER firefighter hiring grants, may be in the process of opening.

DoJ COPS School Violence Prevention Program (SVPP)

“The Students, Teachers, and Officers Preventing School Violence Act of 2018 (STOP School Violence Act of 2018) gave the COPS Office authority to provide awards directly to States, units of local government, or Indian tribes to improve security at schools and on school grounds in the jurisdiction of the grantee through evidence-based school safety programs and technology.”
State Farm and National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) Good Neighbor Firefighter Safety Program
Application period: 12:00am ET on June 4 through 11:59pm ET on June 6
“State Farm will award a total of $1.5 million to 150 volunteer fire departments. Each will receive a $10,000 grant to help them secure essential equipment that will improve firefighter safety, effectiveness, and efficiency and enable them to better serve their communities.”
Wisconsin We Energies Foundation Rewarding Responders Grant
Apply by June 15, 2025
“The We Energies Foundation’s Rewarding Responders Grant helps Wisconsin and Upper Peninsula public safety agencies receive lifesaving equipment or training. Last year, these grants helped nearly 60 agencies receive important safety tools such as automated external defibrillators (AEDs), thermal imaging devices, hazardous gas detectors and water rescue equipment.”
