East Texas fire departments use military surplus vehicles to meet challenge of high-water rescue

From East Texas rains and flooding to fires, fire departments need heavy duty trucks, and many now have military surplus. Through grants from the Texas Forest Service and other sources, military surplus has been a help to numerous Texas departments, big and small.

Washington DC: Stefanik Introduces Bill to Bolster the U.S. Drone Industry

Congresswoman Elise Stefanik introduced the Drones for First Responders (DFR) Act to implement a new tariff on Communist Chinese-controlled drones and use the tariff revenue to establish a new grant program to help first responders, critical infrastructure providers, and farmers, purchase secure drones. This legislation will increase the competitiveness of U.S. drone manufacturers and enhance U.S. national security.

Gillibrand seeks boost in federal funding for fire departments

“Fire departments across our state are operating with outdated fire trucks and protective gear, and replacing it can cost millions of dollars that many of them just don’t have,” Gillibrand said. “This year, I’m calling for increased funding to address nationwide need. Firefighters put their lives on the line for us, and we owe it to them to provide the resources they need to do their jobs.”

Ohio: Colerain Township police receive over $30,000 in federal grants to improve traffic safety

Colerain Township Police Department announced it has received over $30,000 in federal traffic safety funding from the Ohio Department of Public Safety’s Ohio Traffic Safety Office.

Tennessee: Shelbyville Police Department receives new K9 officer through state grant

The department announced a brand new K9 officer, Jerry, and his handler, K9 Officer Dylan Bliss, joined the team thanks to a state grant from the Tennessee State Violent Crime Intervention Fund (VCIF).

New York: Monroe County gets more than $24 million for law enforcement

The majority of the funds will go to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office ($11.7 million) and Rochester Police Department ($10 million).

Illinois: Grant provides AEDs for Sandwich Police

With a check for $7,800, the Sandwich Police Department will be equipping six squad cars with automatic external defibrillators or AEDs.

Washington DC: Bipartisan Klobuchar Bills to Support First Responders Pass the Senate Judiciary Committee

U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, announced that two bills she leads to bolster benefits for first responders and increase investigation resources for carjackings and other crimes unanimously passed out of the committee.

GHSA, Michelin Mobility Intelligence award $300,000 to three states for advanced traffic safety data analysis

Ten states submitted creative ideas on how they would put Michelin data—which is drawn from anonymous data from more than 45 million connected drivers across North America—to use in their communities. After a competitive process, Michelin and GHSA selected California, Minnesota and Washington as grant recipients.
