Public safety grant news from FEMA
FEMA announced nearly $180 million in grant funding to help states and territories protect infrastructure and citizens from future disasters. This funding advances President Donald J. Trump’s America First Resilience Strategy by treating resilience as a proactive investment opportunity. The grants also deliver on Homeland Security Secretary Mullin’s commitment to a locally executed, state-managed, and federally supported model that empowers state and local officials to lead their own disaster preparedness.
Today’s Funding Spans Three Separate FEMA Mitigation Programs
- Pre-Disaster Mitigation Grant Program: FEMA will award more than $160 million to fund 115 specific disaster mitigation projects across 39 states and one Tribal Nation, fulfilling congressional directives in the Fiscal Year 2026 Homeland Security and Further Additional Continuing Appropriations Act. These projects primarily improve infrastructure to reduce flood, earthquake, and wildfire risks.
- Community Assistance Program: FEMA will award $15 million to states and territories to strengthen local floodplain management practices. This competitive program empowers state and territorial leaders to proactively manage flood risks, saving lives and protecting property.
- National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program: FEMA will award $3.8 million to states, territories, nonprofit organizations, and higher education institutions to mitigate earthquake risks. This includes $2.3 million for 22 states and territories to train officials and conduct preparedness exercises, and $1.5 million in competitive grants for nonprofits and universities to implement regional or national mitigation initiatives.
