House to Consider FY2014 Homeland Security Appropriations Bill

Fairfax, Va., June 5, 2013- Today, the U.S. House of Representatives will begin consideration of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2014 U.S. Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act (H.R. 2217). Support amendments, if passed, will increase funding for FIRE-SAFER and US&R programs.

Currently, the bill would fund the FIRE and SAFER grant programs at $337.5 million each, the Urban Search and Rescue System at $27.513 million and the U.S. Fire Administration at $42.162 million.

The House will consider the following amendments to restore funding to important fire service programs:

  • An amendment by Representative Jon Runyan (R-NJ) and Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ) to add $2.5 million each to the FIRE and SAFER grant programs
  • An amendment by Representatives Michael Grimm (R-NY) and Gerald Connolly (D-VA) to provide an additional $7.667 million to the US&R program
  • An amendment by Representative Dave Reichert (R-WA) to add $1.8 million to the USFA budget
