The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has announced the seventeenth award round for the FY2013 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) fire grants program.
FEMA awarded $7,317,909 to 66 Fire Service organizations throughout the US. Awards included:
- $9,595, Operations and Safety, Defiance Fire and Rescue Division, Defiance, Ohio
- $19,000, Vehicle Acquisition (Non-Affiliated EMS Organization), Creston Rescue Unit, Creston, Nebraska
- $36,100, Vehicle Acquisition (Fire Department/Fire District), Red Lick Volunteer Fire Dept., Berea, Kentucky
- $174,397, Operations and Safety (Fire Department/Fire District), Grand Rapids Charter Township Fire Department, Grand Rapids, Michigan
- $391,207, Operations and Safety (Regional Request), Whitman County Fire District 12, Pullman, Washington
- $500,000, State Fire Training Academy, Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute, College Park, Maryland
Round 17 award allocations:
- Operations & Safety: 54 awards, $4,946,499
- Vehicles: 9 awards, $1,325,234
- State Fire Training Academy: 3 awards, $1,046,176
Total FY2013 appropriations are $280,163,233: $201,717,528 for Operations & Safety fire grants, $70,040,808 for Vehicle fire grants, and $8,404,897 for State Fire Training Academy fire grants.
To-date, 1,818 fire grants totaling $242,910,012 have been awarded:
- Operations & Safety: 1,588 awards, $185,171,573
- Vehicles: 200 awards, $49,594,773
- State Fire Training Academy: 30 awards, $8,143,666
Estimated remaining funds are:
- Operations & Safety: $22,784,641 (11%)
- Vehicles: $22,612,246 (31%)
- State Fire Training Academy: $521,176 (6%)
With an average of 107 awards per round, the average award amount is:
- Operations & Safety: $116,607
- Vehicles: $247,974
- State Fire Training Academy: $271,456
