A little over a week after Independence Day 2018, the newest round of AFG fire grant awards has begun. FEMA has announced Round 1 fire grant winners for the FY 2017 Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG). FEMA awarded 213 fire grants totaling $34,799,291, including:

- Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, OK, State Fire Training Academy, $163,653, Equipment
- Waterbury Fire Department, Waterbury, CT, Regional Request, $295,264, Equipment ($279,790) || Training ($45,000)
- Pawtucket Fire Department, Pawtucket , RI, Operations and Safety, $299,795, Modify Facilities, Equipment, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Calypso Volunteer Fire Department, Inc., Calypso, NC, Regional Request, $909,005, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Colorado Department of Public Safety/Division of Fire Safety, Denver, CO, State Fire Training Academy, $500,000, Equipment
- Everett Fire Department, Everett, WA, Vehicle Acquisition, $927,944, Vehicle Acquisition
