FEMA grants: No more DUNS number as of Apr. 4, 2022

That’s right: As of Apr. 4, 2022, when you apply for federal grants in SAM.gov, you will no longer need a DUNS numbers.

FEMA has announced a transition from DUNS, as follows:

FEMA Grants Outcome (FEMA GO): Transition from DUNS to UEI Summary

Background

By April 4, 2022, the federal government will stop using the Dun & Bradstreet number (DUNS) to uniquely identify entities registered in the System for Award Management (SAM).

At that point, entities doing business with the federal government will use a Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) created in SAM.gov. They will no longer have to go to a third-party website to obtain their identifier.

What does this mean for FEMA GO?

Active Organizations

Based on SAM.gov guidance, organizations that are currently registered will automatically be given a UEI and it will be displayed in FEMA GO. No action is needed at this time by active organizations. The FEMA GO system is sweeping SAM.gov nightly and the UEI should prepopulate when you start an application.

The Authorized Organization Representative (AOR) or a  Subrecipient Authorized Representative (SAR) would see the following screen shots when starting an application in FEMA GO.

New Organizations

Based on SAM.gov guidance, new organizations that register with SAM.gov will be given the UEI number.

To register for a new account in FEMA GO, you need to know the SAM-generated Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) for your organization to find your organization’s Electronic Business Point of Contact (eBiz POC). In FEMA GO, the eBIZ POC is the Authorized Organization Representative (AOR). Only the “eBIZ” POC can add you to an organization in FEMA GO.

If you create or re-activate a SAM record, it generally takes 24-48 hours before the FEMA GO system recognizes the updates and allows you to register your organization or begin an application.
