FEMA: Important Reminders for FY 2025 Fire Grants Application Periods

Fire grant news from FEMA

FY25 AFG, SAFER, FP&S Application Periods:

OPEN Through June 22, 2026, 5 p.m. ET

The FY 2025 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG), Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER), and Fire Prevention and Safety (FP&S) application periods are open through 5 p.m. ET on June 22, 2026. Helpful documents, including the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) and Application Checklist for each program, are available at https://www.fema.gov/firegrants.

Don’t Wait to Submit! Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit applications as early as possible. Waiting until the last minute is risky—issues such as forgotten passwords or other unforeseen complications may prevent you from submitting your application on time. Late submissions will not be accepted. If you encounter any problems, contact the Fire Grants Help Desk as soon as possible for assistance.

Authorized Organization Representative (AOR) Requirement

FY25 AFG, SAFER, and FP&S applicants must remain aware of the eligibility requirement stated in respective program NOFOs concerning AORsubmission.

Specifically, an application submitted by an otherwise eligible non-federal entity (i.e. the applicant) may be deemed ineligible when the person that submitted the application is not 1) a current employee, personnel, official, staff or leadership of the non-federal entity; and 2) duly authorized to apply for an award on behalf of the non-federal entity at the time of application.

Further, the individual who signs and submits an application must be assigned the role of Authorized Organization Representative (AOR) within the FEMA GO system. The AOR must be a duly authorized current employee, personnel, official, staff or leadership of the recipient and provide an email address unique to the recipient at the time of application. Consultants or contractors of the recipient are not permitted to be the AOR.

How to Submit Your Application in FEMA GO

Submitting your application in FEMA GO is a two-step process:

Step 1:

  • As you complete your application in FEMA GO, the status will show “Pending submission.”
  • Once all required information is entered (indicated by green checkmarks), click the “Submit for signature” button in the Review Application section. This moves your application to the next step.

Step 2:

  • The status will now show “Pending AOR Signature.”
  • Only an individual assigned the Authorized Organization Representative (AOR) role for your organization can sign and submit the application. System roles and permissions are covered in the FEMA GO Startup Guide
  • If you are not an AOR (for example, if you are only assigned the role of “Grant Writer”), you must coordinate with someone who is assigned the AOR role. The AOR must log in to FEMA GO, complete the required certifications, and click “Submit.” Application submission is covered in the FEMA GO Application Process Guide.

After Successful Submission:

  • After submission of the application, the AOR will receive a confirmation email from [email protected]. If you do not see this email, check your spam or junk folder.
  • The status of the application will read “Submitted to FEMA” in FEMA GO.
